Barcelona will host one of the most important scientific events in 2017

Barcelona will host the 2017 edition of the European Society of Cardiology Congress between the 26th and the 30th of August this year. This event takes place in a different European Capital every year and, since 1950 when the first congress was held, it has visited cities such as Vienna, London, Rome, Stockholm, Munich, Paris or Amsterdam. The city of Barcelona has already hosted the congress in several occasions: in 1992, 1999, 2009 and 2014.

The European Society of Cardiology (ESC) is non-profit medical society that unites Member National Cardiac Societies, Affiliated Cardiac Societies, cardiovascular ESC sub-speciality communities, distinguished Fellows of the ESC and individual members. It is led by expert volunteers and it represents more than 90.000 workers of the field. This organisation works to reduce the impact of the biggest health burden in Europe: cardiovascular disease.

The European Society of Cardiology Congress is the largest cardiovascular congress, with more than 500 experts sessions, 30.000 attendees, and nearly 11.000 abstracts submitted. The 2017 edition will discuss 150 different cardiovascular related topics and it will focus on the PCI (Percutaneous Coronary Interventions) and areas of great importance: scientific research, diagnosis and treatment of cardiovascular disease.

Where will the 2017 European Society of Cardiology Congress take place?

The congress will take place, like the previous editions held in Barcelona, at the Gran Via venue of Fira de Barcelona, in Hospitalet de Llobregat. This is one of the largest venues in Europe and one of the most modern as well. It was designed by the prestigious Japanese architect Toyo Ito, who is also a winner of the Pritzker prize. Gran Via is famous for its amazing features, such as its architecture, its functionality and its commitment to sustainability, with one of the largest rooftop photovoltaic installations. This venue is located very close to Barcelona, in a business development area.

As we mentioned, the European Society of Cardiology Congress will take place the last week of August, which means it is still high season in the city of Barcelona. The congress will also gather thousands of people, turning the look for accommodation in Barcelona into a complicated task.
