Tibidabo forms a breathtaking backdrop to Barcelona’s skyline. The the hill of Tibidabo sits behind the city on the edge of Colserola National Park and is home to both a funfair and amusement park as well as the Sacred Heart Church, a landmark that can be seen for miles around. Tibidabo is a great spot to visit for its breathtaking views of the whole city, it’s clear air and its attractions that will entertain young and old alike.

Tibidabo Amusement Park

The amusement park is a throwback Barcelona’s find de siècle golden age. Built in 1889, many of the rides date back to this time, creating a sense of another age, so do not expect any white-knuckle rides. However, this does mean that the rides are suitable for small children.

Tibidabo Sacred Heart Church

Well worth a visit while you are on Tibidabo is the Sacred Heart Church. Originally built in 1806 and then renovated in 1902, the neo-gothic structure proudly dominated the city’s skyline. You can take a lift to the top of the church and check out the city from a stunning 575 meters above sea level.
It is worth remembering that there are not many options to buy food and drink once you reach the top of the mountain, and that they tend to be quite expensive. It is worth bringing a picnic as there are areas for eating and enjoying the views.

Getting to Tibidabo

To get to Tibidabo you can take a bus from Plaça Catalunya or you can take a tram and funicular, the latter is a fun activity and worth the effort, especially if you have small children.

Getting to to the tram is easy; simply hop on the L7 metro train from Plaça Catalunya and after a short ten minute ride it drops you in Plaça John Kennedy, right next to the tram stop. The route of the tram ride is highly picturesque, passing through Barcelona’s leafiest and most affluent neighbourhood and also offering some wonderful panoramic views of the city. Lasting around 7 minutes, the ride terminates half way up Mount Tibidabo in Plaça Sant Andreu, where there are plenty of restaurants and terraces from where you can enjoy the views.

From here you can continue up the mountain on the funicular. This is another beautiful journey, this time through the mountain´s forests and up the summit and the amusement park.
