Sónar lands in Barcelona one more fromt he 16th to the 18th of June. Sonar was first begun in 1994 in Barcelona as the “Festival of Advanced Music and Multimedia Art”. The first festival took place at the CCCB.

Born out of the boom in electronic music happening at the start of the 1990s, its very first edition featured such legends as Mixmaster Morris, Laurent Garnier and Sven Väth. The festival has made gained fame by showcasing avant-garde artists predominantly from the worlds of dance, electronic music and digital culture, with its creative and sensory series of activities appealing to a more grown up cerebral crowd (also thanks to the Sonar by Day party) as well as youngsters and party people.

Still going strong after 22 years, Sónar has gone from strength to strength and is now an international smash. This year’s line up includes both emerging and well established names, with the likes of Jean-Michel Jarre, New Order and Fatboy Slim confirmed.

Over the years the event has moved venue from the CCCB to the Fira Gran Via in Hospitalet de Llobregat, before settling down in its current home shared between the Firas of Montjuïc and Gran Via.

Since its inception Sónar has been split between the family-friendly Sónar by Day and then Sónar by Night for those who want party a bit harder.
