With the Grácia Festa Major recently finished, it’s time for Sants to throw their own neighbourhood bean feast, a close runner-up for the liveliest such party in the city. While it’s not quite as impressive as Gracia’s 7 day event, it’s still rather impressive.
This year, from August the 20th to the 28th, Sants will decorates its streets in its own spirit for its very onw Festa Major, which takes place in the sixteen close-knit streets around the Parc de l’Espanya.
Watch and join in a ‘correfoc’ (fire run). These start at Plaça Osca on Saturday 27th August at 8pm for children and at 10m for adults. Or simply enjoy dances, lunches and dinners set up in the open air. See giants and big heads – gegants and capgrossos – on various occasions, including at the opening parade, and at the giants ball.
The Festa Major Alternativa features live concerts including the Troba Kung-Fu, on Thursday the 27th at 9pm.
Other highlights include Castellers, with a special “Diada Castellera” that showcases the best colles (teams) in Catalonia. There is also a bike race and a 2km run towards the end of the event.
The Festa Major de Sants finishes with a “Piromusica” fireworks and music display on Sunday the 28th August from 10pm at the Parc Espanya Industrial.
